‘Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down’...as the lovely lady sang in that well-known musical. I think the point being made here is that sugar is rather lovely. We all know that too much sugar isn’t good for you — but if you follow the Burnt Sugar ‘sweetie sharing policy’ and indulge in moderation (most people comment our sweets are too good to rush anyway!), then we believe sugar can boost your ‘mental health’.
During our search for the best and most ethically grown sugar we could find (look at our ethics page to see how far we go), we learned more about the virtues of unrefined sugar.
We reckon unrefined sugar is the best way to indulge in the sweet stuff. Basically, as the name suggests, it’s not refined like white sugar. So no chemicals are used in the process (unlike the way refined white sugar is ‘bleached’). Which means the naturally occurring nutrients, brown colour and caramelly taste of the sugar cane juice don’t get lost either.
